Why Okinawa?
Okinawa is Japan but not quite Japan — a subtropical island chain 2.5 hours from Tokyo and just over 2 hours direct from Seoul. The coral reefs rank among Asia's clearest, the islands belonged to the independent Ryukyu Kingdom until 1879, and the local food, music, and dialect remain distinctly their own. Winter temperatures hover around 18–20°C, making it a warm-weather escape even in January.
